Accused of pointing a gun at his wife and pulling the trigger last October, a former correctional officer and military policeman will now stand trial in Wythe County Circuit Court.
James Howard Gee, 56, of Max Meadows was indicted Monday on charges of attempted murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony stemming from the Oct. 17, 2023, incident at his Grouse Ridge Road residence.
Police said Gee, who smelled strongly of alcohol when deputies arrived, pointed a pistol at his wife during an altercation. The gun, though, didn’t fire.
In 2010, Gee was charged with assault and battery of a family member, but the charge was dropped.
According to court documents, Gee worked for the West Virginia Department of Corrections from 1995-1997. Before that, he served in the U.S. Army.
