A Wytheville man is being held without bond on three felonies after deputies searched a West Monroe Street residence on Tuesday and reported finding drugs and nearly $6,000 in cash.
Gary Edward McKinney Jr., 35, was charged with distributing methamphetamine and manufacturing/distributing drugs-second offense (two counts).
According to a Wythe County Sheriff’s Office press release, members of the agency’s drug task force and tactical team seized 341 grams of methamphetamine, 14 grams of cocaine and 223 grams of psilocybin mushrooms. Officers also seized $5,986 in currency from the residence and vehicle.
Arraigned on Wednesday and given a court-appointed attorney, McKinney is in the New River Valley Regional Jail in Dublin. His preliminary hearing’s been set for July 18 in Wythe County General District Court.

In 2012, McKinney pleaded guilty to two drug felonies in Wythe County Circuit Court, according to online records. He was also convicted of distributing or possessing with the intent to distribute marijuana in 2010.
